Song lyrics & tune by “the First of May,” based on the anonymous poem “The Struggle is Real for Locomotive Engineers” (当火车司机的你们伤不起啊！)2 shared on Chinese railroader forums since 2011.
The wheels of the train don’t stop turning
Doesn’t matter if it’s night or day, when the boss calls, you gotta go to work3

Translators’ notes
- Scroll down for original Chinese lyrics.
- The Chinese title refers to a sort of meme where the term “you can’t hurt me” (你们伤不起) is attached to some frustrating situation, implying that others can’t imagine the hardship one has endured, or that one is on the verge of going crazy.
- As a freight locomotive engineer you can expect to receive 12 hours’ notice for a shift.
